Cold Outreach

Prompts for initial contact with prospects who don't know you yet.

Cold email

Write a cold outreach email:

My business: [what you do]
Target prospect: [their role and company type]
Their likely challenge: [problem you solve]
How I found them: [referral, LinkedIn, event, etc.]
What I want: [meeting, call, reply]
My credibility: [relevant experience or results]

Write an email that:
1. Opens with something relevant to them (not about me)
2. Shows I understand their world
3. Hints at how I might help (without a hard pitch)
4. Has a clear, low-commitment ask
5. Is under 150 words
6. Sounds human, not templated

Avoid: "I hope this finds you well", "I'd love to pick your brain", anything that sounds like every other cold email.

Tip: The goal of a cold email is a reply, not a sale. Make responding easy.

LinkedIn connection request

Write a LinkedIn connection request:

Who I'm connecting with: [their role, company]
Why I want to connect: [genuine reason]
How I found them: [mutual connection, content, event]
What we have in common: [shared interest or context]
My ask: [just connect, or something specific]

Write a connection message that:
1. Is personalised (not generic)
2. References something specific about them
3. Explains why I'm reaching out
4. Is under 300 characters (LinkedIn limit)
5. Doesn't pitch anything
6. Gives a reason to accept

Remember: This is just to connect. Selling comes later (if at all).

Cold call opening

Create a cold call opening script:

Who I'm calling: [role, company type]
Why they might care: [their likely challenge]
My goal: [book meeting, get referral, etc.]
Time I'm asking for: [30 seconds to explain]
My credibility hook: [why they should listen]

Create an opening that:
1. Acknowledges I'm interrupting
2. Gives them a reason to stay on the line (in 10 seconds)
3. Asks permission to continue
4. Pivots to discovery questions
5. Handles "not interested" gracefully
6. Has a clear next step ask

Include:
- The exact opening words
- 2-3 variations to test
- Responses to common objections
- How to leave a voicemail if they don't answer

Outreach sequence

Design a multi-touch outreach sequence:

Target: [who I'm reaching]
Goal: [meeting, demo, conversation]
Channels available: [email, LinkedIn, phone, etc.]
Timeframe: [over how many days/weeks]
What I know about them: [context]
My value proposition: [why they should care]

Create a sequence:
Touch 1 (Day 1): [channel and message]
Touch 2 (Day 3): [channel and message]
Touch 3 (Day 7): [channel and message]
Touch 4 (Day 14): [channel and message]
Touch 5 (Day 21): [channel and message - breakup]

For each touch:
- Which channel
- Key message/angle
- Subject line (if email)
- Call to action

Vary the approach. Don't just send the same message five times.

Referral request

Write a referral request message:

Who I'm asking: [relationship context]
Who I want to be referred to: [type of person/company]
Why they might help: [our relationship, what I've done for them]
How easy I'll make it: [what I'll provide]
What's in it for them: [if anything]

Write a request that:
1. Acknowledges the ask
2. Is specific about who I'm looking for
3. Makes it easy to say yes (or no)
4. Offers to draft the intro message
5. Doesn't pressure
6. Expresses genuine gratitude

Include:
- The ask message
- A draft intro they could forward
- Follow-up if they agree
- Graceful acceptance if they decline
